Handmade- Quilling art work

As the summer approaches, we start making vacation plans. This is the time to relax and have fun . kids are at home, the best part is, alarms are put to rest. Vow! freedom from alarms...am really looking forward to have some fun travelling. But after the travel is done with, comes the challenging part... to keep the children engaged.

Craft, artwork, some hobby like joining a library, reading books this is how we used to spend days as kids. This is how my kids too ! love to spend their free time. Last summer we (daughter dearest and myself) discovered The Art of Quilling.

Quilled frame made by my daughter

Quilling is described by wiki how as:

The art of quilling, or coiling paper, has been around for centuries--from monks curling gold paper during the Renaissance, to young ladies learning the art during the 19th century. Today, quilling is just as popular as ever. All you will need are the right tools, a little patience, and some creativity.

All thanks to my cousin who gifted a quilling earrings- making set to my daughter. This got us really hooked on to it. It is not at all difficult but what is required is a lot of patience, basic craft skill and some ideas.
To get a basic idea do visit http://www.wikihow.com/Do-Quilling. They have explained the process clearly and in a very simple manner.

mix &  match with any outfit

little embellishments make it interesting!

Jhumkis for traditional wear

Not only jewelry, one can think of various options. This was such a hit. We gifted it among our family & friends. since this was handmade, it was much appreciated too!

Likewise we decorated a gift envelope.

Greeting cards made by quilling is another great idea. You can make bookmarks, keychains....the list is endless.
Finally our new home desperately needed a number board. So there you go! A day's effort and a handmade board was ready.

In various shades of pink!

quilling is a real fun and engaging craft. various colour combinations, different patterns all make it so unique.

Also, I want to introduce (probably you would have already heard about her!) all of you to this amazing lady Vaishali Rastogi. Have a look at her facebook page here. She has wonderful talent and  hands of gold... if I may say so !

Did you enjoy this post? do let me know.So what are your plans this vacations? There is immense satisfaction in handmade work.

I read a quote recently which goes this way...HAPPINESS IS HANDMADE
